WHAT IS SAM?
WHAT IS UP WITH SAM?
This notice can be found on the SAM Website as of August 10th:
SAM is still experiencing some performance issues, which may result in a slowness of page loading or maybe even a web page error. We are working to improve these issues as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience. SAM has the most users online from 11 am to 4 pm Eastern Time.
The launch of SAM hasn’t been very graceful. I’m not normally one to criticize new site launches gone awry, but with the seemingly infinite amount of resources our friends at SAM.gov have had at their disposal one would think they’d have the site ready for prime time by now.
The GovCon community is frustrated and speaking out about it:
The federal government’s new Web portal that consolidates disparate federal procurement systems is not getting rave reviews from contractors and consultants, who call the initial version cumbersome, buggy and inflexible.
“The bugs are still apparent, since I got search errors and performance issues,” said Jaime Gracia, CEO of D.C.-based Seville Government Consulting. “The disclaimer on the home page is unfortunate, since they are so far behind schedule, and nothing works like it should yet.”

I find myself wondering about the security of the data being handled by SAM…. I think I’ll hold off on registering for a bit longer.
